Who We Are
Alpha Omicron Pi is an international women's fraternity promoting friendship for a lifetime, inspiring academic excellence and lifelong learning, and developing leadership skills through service to the fraternity and community.
The Chicago City Alumnae Chapter was installed on June 2, 1996. We join the other 319 alumnae and 178 collegiate chapters that AOII has chartered in the US and Canada over the past 100 years. The City Alumnae Chapter has been strong since it's inception earning performance certificates from International Headquarters in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. We were awarded with a Distinguished Service award at Convention in 2001. At AOII's Convention June 25th 2003 we were awarded with the Ruby Award for Distinguished Chapters (at least 31 of 35 standards of excellence) the highest award for an alumnae chapter.
We strive to live up to AOII's mission statement, focussing on friendship, life learning, leadership, and service.
Friendship: We have great fun at the many events each year. As well as renewing and deepening existing friendships, we have the opportunity to meet sisters from all over the US and Canada. The city group is proud of it's diversity of age, race, class and collegiate chapters represented. We've had lots of fun at pot lucks, Cubs games, Chicago Architecture Foundation River tours, BBQ's, meeting for monthly dinners and lunches and many other events. Exploring and experiencing our great City of Chicago is one of our favorite things to do!
Lifelong Learning: We have monthly programming that encourages lifelong learning in many forms. In the past years we have given members opportunities in planning their estate, relaxation techniques, learning CPR, business etiquette, resume building, investing, artistic expression, and sports team participation just to name a few. We also support the graduate scholarships given out by AOII HQ.
Leadership: We provide leadership and support to our 2 local collegiate chapters by supplying AAC and Corporation members and by co-sponsoring events. We encourage our members to take leadership positions in organizations in their communities. We also provide leadership opportunities to our own members in the form of AOII offices and committee work. City group members have gone on to regional and national AOII offices.
Service: We participate in several philanthropic activities throughout the year benefitting AOII's national philanthropy, Arthritis Research, as well as other local groups and the AOII Foundation. In the past year we have had a Golf outing, Holiday Silent Auction and garage sale to raise money for these causes. We also donate our time to philanthropic projects such as holiday gift wrapping for charity or the Jingle Bell Run for the Arthritis Foundation.
